About Me

Author, Courtney Lucas, also known as C-Luv, fell in love with reading and writing at an early age. In the third grade she discovered the art of poetry and became captivated in the works of Langston Hughes, Dr. Maya Angelou, Emily Dickinson, and Rudyard Kipling. 

While other kids were at play, she would be found with her head in a book. Inspired by Anne Frank, Courtney asked her mother for a diary and began the practice of writing during her middle school years. Throughout her young life she encountered many hardships such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, and poverty, where she felt she loss her sense of safety, value, and voice. She found writing to be a place of therapeutic escape for many years thereafter. It was through writing that she discovered her voice and true self. 

Now branded “C-Luv Speaks”, Courtney shares her artistic expression with the world as an artisan, author, and spoken word performer, and educator, speaking at workshops, events, and conferences. Her motto is “Expression over Suppression!” Courtney published her book, ‘Poetically Preserved’, as an ode to her journey from youth to womanhood. It is a collection of poems, written over 10 years, preserving her process of transformational healing. She is the founder of Nurturing Excellence, where she uses her voice to help empower others by raising awareness and providing resources to youth and families for the prevention and intervention of abuse through evidenced- based strategies, poetry, and lived experiences. She serves our community by hosting a support group for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, teaching nurturing parent education, and by providing mentorship to help change the trajectory and overcome barriers to a thriving lifestyle. Featured are a variety of poetic art expressions created by Courtney through her brand, Poetic Alchemy.
